Experience Daytrip travel solutions as I tell you about my transportation between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona.
As a passionate traveler and someone who is determined to age gracefully, when I learned about Daytrip opening routes in Arizona, I jumped into the action with both feet.
What is Daytrip?
Daytrip is a travel service that provides door-to-door transportation with a personalized touch, focusing on connecting travelers with local drivers who offer more than just a ride from point A to point B.
Launched in 2015 in Europe, Daytrip expanded to 130+ countries on every continent (except Antarctica). They have served over one million happy travelers, and you can book from anywhere to anywhere.
Daytrip specializes in offering private car transfers between cities, like rideshare services that we have grown to know and love. Where Daytrip differs, however, is that they provide sightseeing stops on your journey.
The service, designed to be customizable, allows passengers to choose their route, stops, and schedule detours according to their interests, whether it’s a quick scenic detour or extended explorations of off-the-beaten-path attractions.
For example, we stopped at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery on my recent trip from Phoenix to Tucson, Arizona. Daytrip suggested this stop while I explored the website and considered my options.
I would never have known the monastery was there if it weren’t for Daytrip. Because I enjoy learning about different cultures and customs, I scheduled this destination in Florence on our journey to Tucson. The stop was worth the time to visit. Our driver waited in the parking lot while we explored the churches and grounds.
Florence is about 40 miles east of Interstate 10 in a remote stretch of the Sonoran Desert and about 57 miles from the Hacienda Del Sol, our first Tucson destination.
How Daytrip Works
To book a ride, use the Daytrip website or mobile app. Start by entering your pick-up and drop-off locations. Then, you can add sightseeing stops or specific experiences you want to include. Daytrip provides a list of possible attractions and experiences, which are curated based on local insights.
The service is straightforward and user-friendly, providing precise costs upfront and maintaining communication throughout the journey.
The travel documents came immediately by email with all the details of the outbound and return trips. The details included:
- Pick-up location and pick-up time
- The stop and duration
- The drop-off location and estimated arrival time
- Passenger contact information
- Luggage allowance
- Vehicle provided (you select this during the booking process)
- Total price
- Payment method (cash to the driver, or you can prepay with a credit card)
- Driver meeting point
- Driver drop-off point
- Driver’s responsibility to drive safely, no alcohol, no drugs
- Driver provides child seat if required, or if local laws require passengers to bring their own
- Daytrip contact information 24/7 or call USA or UK phone numbers

Advantages of Using Daytrip
Personalized Experience
You can tailor each trip to your preferences, which is particularly advantageous for seeing and experiencing local culture and hidden gems that might be difficult to access with standard public transport or more rigid tour services.
Local Insight
Daytrip drivers are locals who speak English and possess extensive knowledge of the region, offering transportation, guided experiences, and recommendations. Our drivers were local to the Phoenix area and less familiar with Tucson.
Convenience
The service eliminates the hassle of coordinating multiple modes of transport, dealing with luggage between stops, or navigating unfamiliar roads on your own.
Things to Consider Using Daytrip
Cost
While your experience with Daytrip travel can be more economical for groups than multiple taxis or rideshares, it might still be more expensive than public transportation options, especially for solo travelers or those on a tight budget.
If I were traveling solo, this would be my transportation of choice. It was a relief not to worry about driving, fueling, and the related costs of car maintenance, parking at the destinations, valet parking, and security in the parking lots.
Dependence on Availability
The availability of drivers and the flexibility of the service can vary by location and season, potentially impacting last-minute or highly customized plans. Because I generally plan ahead, and our trip to Tucson was simple, driver availability was not an issue.
Weather Dependence
As with any road travel, bad weather can affect the ability to make stops or explore sites, which might be okay with train or plane travel where weather conditions impact transfers less.
In this part of Arizona (Central and Southern), weather is less of a concern. We had gorgeous blue skies and temps in the 70s.
Delays Out of the Driver’s Control
Traffic jams, railroad crossings, and other road situations may cause delays in transportation. Be sure to allow time for such inconveniences. You will arrive relaxed and calm to enjoy your arrival experience.
The Return Trip from My Daytrip Travel Experience
The Daytrip driver picked us up for our return trip at the Valet Station outside the front lobby of the Loews Ventana Canyon. It was convenient, easy, and stress-free. The ride home took two hours without any delays. It was the first time I’d arrived home not exhausted from traveling. It’s an experience I want to repeat.
Take Away from My Daytrip Travel Experience
Daytrip makes travel between destinations convenient and personalized. This unique blend of transportation is particularly attractive to people who don’t or can’t drive yet still have a zest for exploration and a desire to travel by car. It’s a perfect road trip choice.
I’m eager to use Daytrip again when we visit Morocco in North Africa in 2025. We will fly into Casablanca, transfer with Daytrip to Marrakech, and return for our departing flight.
Daytrip hosted my husband and me on these transfers between Phoenix and Tucson. However, all opinions are my own.
