Where to Eat, What to Order, and Why It’s Worth the Stop

On a recent drive through Oceanside, I discovered another excellent restaurant to add to my list of best places to eat in Oceanside.

The Fish Shop’s brand-new fourth location in the San Diego area features award-winning fish tacos, build-your-own seafood plates, oyster nights, and monthly shrimp boils.

The Fish Shops are all close to the beach, which makes it easy to stop after a day of sand, surf, or wandering along the coast.

The open windows, spacious entrance, and relaxed style immediately impressed me. The Fish Shop accommodates families, friends, and solo diners after a day at the beach. Dogs are welcome on the patio. The $5 corkage fee lets wine lovers enjoy their own wine with their meal.

Although regulars often order at the front desk, we took the menus and selected an indoor table.

When visiting a new restaurant, I typically try the house specialty. After learning the ordering process, I was eager to sample my meal.

The Ordering Process

The process:

1) Pick the fish (I chose Salmon)

2) Pick the marinade (I chose Fish Shop Seasoning, which is a Cajun dry rub with brown sugar that is a little sweet with a mild spice.)

3) Pick a Style (My choice was the healthy grilled version with a seaweed salad and jasmine rice.)

The fish tasted so good with the “sauce” that I asked the manager for the recipe. He told me they sell it, and he went to get a bottle from the kitchen. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any available for sale onsite, but they do sell them on their website. At the moment, it is sold out on the website, too.

If you’re looking for a good restaurant in Oceanside, I recommend The Fish Shop. This spot delivers award-winning seafood, including their famous fish tacos and customizable plates, all with beachside convenience and relaxed style.
